Church I

Two shrouded figures,

Spiritual seekers,

Appeared at the back of the church.

Rags their apparel.

Their look and smell was one of abandonment and despair.

Their search was one for hope and love.

They heard the church was such a place where

Love was found and people truly cared.

They entered the doors to

Hardened faces,

Social Abandonment

And icy glares.

Not one church member showed them by their actions how much Jesus really cares.

No warm welcomes,

And suspicion penetrated the air.

To these precious souls

Whose hearts, souls, spirits were bruised and broken,

They were driven out by apathy,

Spiritual Cruelty,

And the legalistic pride,

That the outside is more important than the heart and soul inside,

 Which church am I?

Sadly, this is the church today, and yet they believe they are the bride to be!

While this has been true in many of the churches I’ve attended over the last 40+ years, I am very happy to say that my current church would gladly welcome them.
